“Well hello there gentlemen.  What brings you to my part of the city?”

“Traveling for the most part. However, my wife, Legode Rydrion, mentioned you’d been around our part of the woods not long ago.”

“You are the Lady Rydrion’s husband?  It is a pleasure to finally meet you.  I too have been travelling and learning much from these new lands.”  Jarlaxle took in the man, this descendant of Baenre or so Legode had said.

“Yes, Myzriel Llolland. I left Baenre awhile ago… but it’s a pleasure meeting you officially.” Legode had told him that Killik let his tongue waggle and the words that Myzriel was Dantrag’s son spilled out.

“If there’s anything I can help you with, let me know. I’ve been on the surface for about two decades now and I’ve traveled through quite a few of the lands.”

———— Description ——-

For a drow, Myzriel is incredibly attractive. His features are slightly androgynous, but only in the face. He has a very lean build but is a good height for a drow and he isn’t very muscular. It’s hard to tell how fit he is since he wears at least two layers of clothes.

He’s not a fan of robes and prefers to wear an overcoat that extends almost to his knee, that is embroidered and edged in purple. The coat itself is black and there’s the feeling that the sigils and embroidered design is arcane and religious in nature. Yet there is a noticable lack of spiders and spider motifs on his person. Neither is there Vhaurun’s favorite, the scorpion.

Interestingly everything he wears, even the jewelry, has no magical aura when it should. Also, his presence is also cloaked from scrying and other divination-related spells. It’s uncertain what kind of mage he is, as he lacks a noticeable spell book and material components, but his overall appearance says he’s definitely linked to magic.

Two of his most outstanding features, are his rare silver hair, that is pulled back into a braid that ends mid-back, and the mithril tattoos that cover his face and most visible parts of his body. They are light and decorative in a nature that encorporates drow aesthitics (devoid of spiders and webs) with the neat lines and sharp curves of their script with a touch of arcane mysticism. His eyes are red amber, red on the outside and fading to a yellow toward the pupil.

There are some sigils on it, and it’s clear he has at the very least an intent interest in magic. His lack of obvious spell book and material components tends to confuse the uneducated. Even his magical nature and aura is hidden from most spells as is the fact that his presence is cloaked from scrying.

Like any drow, he never leaves home without a weapon, and at the moment his visible weapons are a staff and a rapier. He doesn’t wear any armor, but that doesn’t mean he is easily hit. Magic can always take care of that.

((Oh hey! If you like Jarlaxle art, I have a ton of it in my archive. I was posting at least 1-3 drow related images every day for about 9 months. I’ve slowed down the past few months… since about October. Just offering so if you wanted to share the awesomeness of Jarlaxle you didn’t have to go digging far. XDDD))

“Scimitars are good swords, but you’re right. I think Killik would despise me for eternity if I made him feel like a Drizzt copycat.” Myzriel nodded, “Straight blades it is.” Leaning to whisper so the little fey-ri couldn’t hear he told Derik, “I’ve got an idea. I don’t mind buying something a little higher make, because I want to have it enchanted, but I think we can pretend to settle on something bland and uninteresting and surprise my son when the enchanting is finished.”

It would be rude to talk longer as the dwarven woman addressed the two. He couldn’t be more thankful that New De’Var was hospitable to drow. It made this so much easier.

“Thank you. Do you have multiples of the same available. I’ll be needing about three or four of the same balance and size.”

Leaning back to speak in a normal tone to Derik, “Hey, can you handle looking through the straight blades while I deal with this? You’ve got a better eye than I do for those weapons.”

He had one more idea although it might dissappoint his son, but the kid had to learn how to shop as well as fight. “Killik, why don’t you pick out one or two for you to look at. I want you to test the balance and tell me what you think of them. Show me what you’ve learned about swords.”

“Let’s just hope the bird doesn’t let the cat out of the bag.” Derik whispered back, while the shopkeeper nodded at Myzriel’s request and pulled out the throwing knives the sorcerer asked for. Derik then added out loud, “Sure thing Myzriel.” While Derik looked over the rapiers and the short swords, keeping Killik’s age and size in mind, Killik grinned at his dad.

“Alright dad!” Killik said, before looking around the displayed weapons and biting his lip a bit as he tried to decide which one to test first. While he wasn’t disappointed about having to do this since it was with weaponry instead of something like clothes or shoes. He soon settled for a shortsword with a shining blade, an iron handle, and a few gems set into it. Taking a few test swings, Killik then frowned a bit.

“For some reason, this doesn’t really feel right… like’s it’s a bit too heavy or something.” Killik said, holding it in both his hands and trying to take a closer look.

Myzriel acknowledged Derik with a not and whispered under his breath, in case the bird was paying attention. “Please, don’t ruin the surprise, you know how much he’ll be thrilled.”

Seeing Killik try out the blades gave him a certain sense of pride. He knew his son was capable of wielding a weapon. Part of his was relieved the boy was finally getting the opportunity to hold something deadlier, much like he had needed in growing up in Menzo. It seemed odd from time to time, while raising Killik, that he didn’t have to watch out for the daggers aimed at his back. The Underdark life never left Myzriel’s memories, although he was thankful his children were raised on the surface without the same matriarchal biases.

Shaken from his inner musings by Killik’s comment he asked, “Can I see it for a second. I’ll give it a try too to see where the balance is off. It might be weighted heavier in the hilt where it’s iron. Go ahead and try another.”

Turning to the shop keeper briefly, he pointed to two of the throwing knives, “Can you keep these two out, they’re my favorites so far, the rest I aren’t exactly what I’m looking for.”

Anonymous asked : Hey Myzriel! There's a new Jarlaxle in town, and he seems to be a little interested in your wife! She ain't interested in him though, so you don't have to worry about the two going behind your back.

Myzriel laughed at the gray face’s comment. “He can be interested all he wants, she’s just going to chop his hands off if he tries anything. I know my wife, I don’t have to worry about her cheating. If anything, she’d talk to me first anyways and she can handle herself rather well… except against dire bears.”

Myzriel joined Derik in doing the same. “He’s definitely eyeing the one with silver etching, although I don’t want his first weapon to be a target for thieves. What do you think about the curved sword over there,” he pointed to a more modest steel blade that was eastern in design. Myzriel believed it was called a Falchion, a close cousin to a scimitar.

“I’m not sure the curved edge will help him as much as a straight edged blade. Hmm. Perhaps also getting a few throwing daggers would help. I’ll ask.”

He approached the shop-keeper and asked about the throwing knives. Myzriel knew enough seeing his friends use them that he looked through the available knives with a good idea of how to check balance and design.

Killik and Derik both looked at the Falchion and while the boy imagined himself using the thing, Derik frowned a bit as he crossed his arms.

“Eh, I dunno about that one.” he said, “he gets two of those, and runs into people who don’t know weapons very well, and if he ends up being able to hide his horns and tail, Killik might end up getting mistaken for a copy cat to Do’Urden. You really want that Myzriel? But in any case, a straighter edged blade may be a good idea or maybe one that is designed to easily slash and pierce. Curved blades are best for slashing things, and I believe straight blades are best for stabbing.”

The shopkeeper, a dwarven woman who over heard the drow talking, and smiled to see the boy looking around, looked up at Myzriel when he approached.

“Ah, how can I help ye?” she said, the short, bearded woman asked. After hearing what he wanted to look at, she then pulled out a tray of throwing knives, for him to look through.

Laughing for a moment over the cat he nodded in agreement. Then he jogged after his father-in-law and son toward the weapon shop. Entering the shop he kept his eyes out for Killik first. Myzriel guessed the boy might be looking either for a weapon like Derik’s or Artemis’s or the other biggest, nastiest, prettiest looking thing in the shop.

Thankfully, Killik was nearby and looking at a glass case that had a few nice looking daggers inside it, each one a different design and made from a different metal. The boy grinned as he looked them over, trying to see which one would be the coolest looking one to have. Derik stood nearby and examined the blades as well, though he was trying to see which ones would be good for his grandson’s first weapons.

Myzriel joined Derik in doing the same. “He’s definitely eyeing the one with silver etching, although I don’t want his first weapon to be a target for thieves.
